Laborers Local 942
 | | |

Laborers Local 942 has a long and proud history of representing Alaskan working people in the northern, interior and southeastern areas of Alaska. Its main office is located in Fairbanks, Alaska with branch offices in Juneau and Nome.
Chartered November 1, 1946, Laborers Local 942 is an affiliate local of the Laborers International Union of North America. Originally a construction union, today Local 942 also represents service contract workers, transit and tourism industry workers, and pipeline maintenance workers. We have crafted a unique cooperative agreement with many of the Interior's Athabascan Indian tribes.
Local 942 has been involved in most of the major construction projects in the Interior and Northern Alaska such as the Distant Early Warning (DEW) Line sites across the top of Alaska. Built in the1950's, the DEW Line was conceived as a defense for a possible "over the pole" invasion. Local 942 helped build the Eielson, Ladd Field (today Ft. Wainwright), and Ft. Greely military bases.
In the 1970's, Local 942 members helped build the Trans Alaska Pipeline, which today delivers 17% of the United States' domestic oil production. For over a quarter of a century, we have continued maintenance operations work for the pipeline as well as new construction and maintenance work at Prudhoe Bay, as new wells and gathering lines are added.
Today, Local 942 workers are involved in the Ft. Greely Missile Defense system construction. You can see us on road jobs and building projects, flagging, gradechecking, pipelaying, drilling and blasting. A 942 member is your driver on the Borough bus, your server at the Westmark hotel, the city worker and the flagger guiding you through summer road construction.
